This function can be accessed from the project explorer after selecting and right-clicking on the point cloud file and selecting the Reduce Density option.
After the function starts, a save window will appear. Users can specify the file path and file name here. After pressing save, the settings window will appear.
Two parameters can be set on this setting panel: the cell size and maximum number of cells.
The cell size represents a voxel, a "virtual box" in space with the specified size. The setting's dimension is in meters, and the default cell size is 10 cm. The maximum number of points in the cell will define how many points will remain within the given cell size. The density reduction reduces the number of points equally from the space, so not the first 10 points will remain but the 10 points will be equally distributed in the cell.
The newly created cloud shall be optimized before the first use.
As of May 2024, the Reduce Density toolkit is available within the External Optimizer tool. Availability might be a subject of the hardware key settings.
